Waterfront Bahamas Home Comes With Its Own Five-Story Lighthouse

Location: New Providence Island, the Bahamas

Price: US$2.9 million

This recently renovated waterfront home offers a large pool, six bedrooms, wide-open views of the Atlantic Ocean—and its very own five-story Bahamian lighthouse that dates to the 1950s.

“The house is on a beautiful waterfront with distant views of Paradise Island and Rose Island,” said listing agent Silvina Andrews, of Engel & Völkers Bahamas.

Its expansive outdoor living spaces include an infinity pool, a partially covered patio, an open pool deck and a stone-clad bridge that connects the lighthouse to the main house.

The 20-year-old residence was recently renovated and updated by the owner, Ms. Andrews said. “He modernized it and lightened it up, but it still has a very traditional Bahamian feel.”

The lighthouse offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen and a lantern room with a veranda and 360-degree views on the top level.

The owner also reinforced the seawall and added new tile flooring and new windows to capitalize on the expansive water views. A wood deck at the edge of the seawall has a ladder down to the ocean.

“There is great snorkeling right there,” Ms. Andrews said.

The ground-floor living room of the Eastern Road house features a two-story bay window facing out to the ocean, and there is also a dining room, a family room and an eat-in kitchen on this level. A separate area for guests or staff has two bedrooms and a galley kitchen.

A large home office is on the mezzanine level, and the primary bedroom suite, which has a walk-in closet and access to a wraparound terrace, is upstairs. There are three other bedrooms on the second floor.

The lighthouse needs to be renovated and refinished, Ms. Andrews said. It features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen and a lantern room with a veranda and 360-degree views on the top level.

The interior of the lighthouse is all teak, she said, with Brazilian hardwood floors. There are both stairs and an elevator.

The 7,000-square-foot main house has six bedrooms and four full bathrooms.

Along with the lighthouse, amenities include a swimming pool with a large deck, a partially covered patio, a wood deck with direct access to the ocean, multiple outdoor verandas and balconies, and a full basement with plenty of storage.
